Norma Irene Neuville McLaughlin, 96, longtime Paris resident and community supporter, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at her home at Spring Lake Assisted Living.  

Visitation for family and friends is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Hutchison officiating.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. 

Mrs. McLaughlin was born on Jan. 4, 1923, in Neuville, Texas to Will and Naoma Neuville.  

As a child, she attended Neuville and Honey Island public schools, followed by Stephen F. Austin Teachers College in Nacogdoches. Norma graduated from college in 1942 and immediately began teaching full time as a second grade teacher in Beaumont.   

In 1945, Norma married her college sweetheart, James Donald McLaughlin, of Jewett Texas. After he graduated from the University of Texas Law School, the couple made Paris, Texas, their home as Don took a position working with local attorney O.B Fisher. Shortly after moving to Paris, Norma and Don placed membership at First United Methodist Church, where Norma taught and played piano for Sunday school children and adult classes for over 20 years. Her passion for sharing the Bible also led her to become a member of the Littleton-Hyte Bible Club. 

Norma enjoyed being a part of the community and was an active member of King’s Daughters, C’est La Vie and various bridge clubs through the years. A dedicated mother, Norma was also very active in the East Paris PTA and served as a Girl Scout leader for several years. Music was an enjoyable past time for Norma. An accomplished pianist, Norma enjoyed providing music for the noon Rotary Club of Paris. She was also a member of the Moderne Music Club. 

A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Norma will be missed by all those who knew her.  

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Jones and husband, Reid, of Thornton, Colorado and Brenda Anthony and husband, Bobby, of Paris; son-in-law, Tony Hutto, of Paris; nine grandchildren, Steve Jones, Mark Jones, Brad Jones and wife, Leah, Jennifer Sandoval and husband, Anthoney, Denise Moffitt and husband, Michael, Deanna England, Scott Biard and wife, Shannon, Will Biard and wife, Anne and Don Biard. She was also the proud great-grandmother of 12 great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald McLaughlin; daughter, Anne Hutto; brothers, Charles Neuville and Glen Neuville. 

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Scott Biard, Will Biard, Don Biard, Brad Jones, Michael Moffitt and great-granddaughter, Ally Moffitt. 

A heartwarming thank you to Betty Robison, Nita Goforth and Caroline Frierson who took care of Norma and never left her side for the past three years and to the wonderful people at Spring Lake Assisted Living and Platinum Hospice. 

If desired, memorials may be made to the King’s Daughters, First United Methodist Church organ fund, or the charity of your choice.
