Roundtable Club of Paris
The Roundtable Club of Paris held its closing meeting of the 2018-19 club year on May 20 at Calvary United Methodist Church.
Connie Dodd, president, welcomed members and opened the meeting with a prayer. Hostess Ulla Raus served apple strudel, cucumber sandwiches, and lemon pastry creams from a festive table set with ribbons cascading from little poles and colorful Gerbera daisies. Daisies also were centerpieces for each table.
Members present were Cheryl Brown, Connie Dodd, Barrillon Dougherty, Martha Hickman, Carol James, Sally McEwin, Joanie Moore, Pansy Morrow, Fran Neeley, Ann Norment, DiAnne Pruett, Ulla Raus, Daisy Redding and Robbie White.
As this was the annual business meeting for the club, there was no program, but a time for members to visit with one another, update club rules and by-laws, and vote on the slate of officers for 2019-20.
The following were elected as officers: President, Connie Dodd; vice-president, Fran Neely; secretary, DiAnne Pruett; and treasurer, Ulla Raus.
Vice-President Neeley expressed appreciation to Calvary United Methodist Church for allowing the club to use its fellowship hall each month.
Meetings will resume Sept. 16, with a new theme and study.
Circle of Light
Circle of Light of Presbyterian Women met May 21 in the Alice Fairfax Stone Fellowship Hall of Central Presbyterian with Melissa Darrow and the Rev. David Darrow as hosts.
Moderator Cindy Walker welcomed members and after prayer concerns were shared, she gave the opening invocation. Following the lesson and business meeting, the Darrows served a delightful luncheon of sliders, finger sandwiches, salads, fresh fruit, and chips. Moderator Walker served cake balls and cookies for dessert.
The Graduation Luncheon was a success with three high school graduates from Goodland Academy at Hugo, Oklahoma, and two Central graduates from Paris Junior College. Bibles were presented to the graduates.
As the Least Coin offering was received, Walker read a devotional based on Colossians 2:2-3 and Isaiah 33:6.
Using the CD prepared by Amy Poling Sutherlun, members listened to Lesson Nine, “God with Us.”
Others participating in the discussion were Caroleen Thornton, Louise Hagood, Ann Norment, Linda Lair, Flo Plummer, Sally Cecil, Jimmie Kruntorad, Cindy Walker and Martha Hickman. Members closed by saying the Mizpah.
The next Circle of Light meeting will be Sept. 17, at the home of Pamela Brown.
