Unique Mass at Our Lady of Victory

With attendance at Catholic church masses across Northeast Texas modified by the Decree of Bishop Joseph Strickland, bishop of the Diocese of Tyler, and by Gov. Greg Abbott, Our Lady of Victory’s Father Denzil Vithanage found a novel method of remembering and praying for all parishioners unable to attend Sunday’s Mass. While Mass attendance is limited to few ministers who assist the presiding priest, Our Lady of Victory has taped photographs of all parishioners to the empty pews as the pastor prays for their health and safety, as well as for all those affected by the coronavirus. The parishioners’ “virtual presence” is a reminder to all of the need for individual prayer and collective prayer for God’s protection and care during this health crisis.
