As Texas' electric demands continue to rise, Northeast Texas is attracting companies looking to set up solar energy farms. Several are currently working with school districts and local governments to reach payment in lieu of taxes, or PILOT, agreements (a tax break in exchange for guaranteed payments for a specific length of time). School districts are able to collect PILOTs without the money being taken by the state as part of its "Robin Hood" education funding formula, however, the payments are far less than what would be collected in taxes. Do you support PILOT agreements to attract solar energy companies?

The problem with PILOT payments is that it ultimately hides tax revenues that if and when collected would reduce or offset the taxes being paid by individual property owners. It provides companies with the ultimate pass on have to “pay their fair share”. Everyone, Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Independant should oppose this program.
