DAILY NEWS SLIGHTLY DAMAGED
The Daily News sustained slight building damage following Hurricane Rita. A part of the roof over the pressroom was damaged by wind, and that created major leaking. Bill Cochrane and press foreman David Kirby, both in the building at the time, rounded up a crew of volunteers to cover the press and newsprint, so no lasting damage occurred.
The roof has already been repaired.
Following on the heels of Rita, The Daily News solicited readers own stories and photographs from the days of the storm. These have been compiled into a special section supported by over $11,000 worth of advertising. The 16-page broadsheet section will be published on Oct. 8.
So many stories came in, however, (well over 60) that a number of the stories will be compiled and published as part of a special report on the Internet at www.galvnews.com.
