DEPORT — Mayor John Mark Francis wants to see work done on a local state road, and he’s turned to his constituency to help expedite the process.

According to a letter from Francis, FM 1149 experiences frequent flooding and needs new culverts to help tackle the issue. Francis said the problem has persisted for some time now.

The mayor asked Deport residents to call Texas Department of Transportation Supervisor Jimmy Meals at 903-427-3561.

“Please be polite in contacting him and his office,” Francis wrote. “He will be providing the funds, the contract and the labor to ensure that our road is fixed so that our roads will not be flooded as they were this past Wednesday night.”

Francis also said he would be happy to answer questions, adding he can be reached at mayor@cityofdeport.org, at 903-272-0040 or at Deport City Hall at 903-652-3875.
