On Saturday, May 11, the District 4 4-H Rifle contest was held in Lamar County. There were 65 youth that participated representing 14 counties. Lamar County 4-H had great success this year and we would like to congratulate each youth that participated in this year’s contest. A lot of hard work has gone into this project and we would like to thank our 4-H volunteers for all the effort they put into helping these young people.
In the shooting sports project, youth learn how to load and shoot a variety of firearms, proper maintenance of your firearms, parts, and accessories, proper safety procedures in handling and shooting, about shooting sports competitions and how to participate, hunting procedures, laws and ethics related to shooting, hunting, and firearms use, and about careers related to firearms and shooting sports.
Lamar County 4-H had youth compete in all 3 age categories being junior (3-5th grade), intermediate (6- 8th grade), and senior ages (9-12th grade) and had winners in each area.
Lamar County 4-H also had success in the 4-H District Shotgun competition. Lamar County placed 1st in Seniorz Skeet, 2nd in Senior Trap. Casey Dorries placed fifth in the senior Skeet Individual, 4th in Trap Individual & fourth in the overall competition.
