The Rivercrest Rebels baseball team scored a critical district win at Detroit, beating the Eagles 8-3.
The Rebels went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first after a John Grider single, then they added 5 runs in the third to really open the game up.
Following another single from Grider, Rivercrest had the other 4 runs walked in, including one hit by pitch that scored a run.
Detroit scored twice to cut the deficit to 6-2, but Rivercrest added 2 runs of its own in the top of the seventh courtesy of another run walked in and an RBI single from Baylor Augustus.
Grider led the Rebels to the win, going 2-for-5 with 2 RBI from the plate, scored one run and pitched all 7 innings. He gave up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 4 walks and struck out 5 batters. Will Purviance, Blake Giles, Karsom Damron and Augustus each picked up 1 hit apiece for the Rebels.
D.J. Jones led Detroit going 3-for-3 from the plate with 1 run scored, while Joel Hinson recorded 1 hit and scored once. Jayden Goodwin went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI.
The Rebels will play again at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cooper, while Detroit looks to bounce back at 6 p.m. Friday at Bowie.
Lady Rebels rout Yantis
The Rivercrest Lady Rebels continued to steamroll through district competition with an 18-8 victory in 6 innings over Yantis.
The Lady Rebels started the game off slow, falling behind Yantis 4-1 early. However, Rivecrest woke up in a hurry.
A 9-run outburst in the top of the fourth, followed by 8 runs in the next two innings combined gave the road team the breathing room it needed to secure the victory.
Jaden Bishop and Marta Ward each finished with 3 hits, 3 runs and combined for 5 RBI in the win, while Lexi Rushing recorded 2 hits, 2 runs and 1 RBI to go with her 6 innings on the mound. She gave up 6 hits, 2 earned runs and struck out 8 batters.
