Chisum boys, HG girls remain perfect

Four Honey Grove players scored in double figures as the Lady Warriors continued their impressive start by beating the host Chisum Lady Mustangs, 84-27, Tuesday night to remain undefeated.
Jessica Brigham’s 35 points was all the Lady Warriors needed in this one, as they improved to 7-0 on the season. Brigham was one steal shy of a double-double, as she finished with nine steals and four assists.
Deosha Mackey scored 14 points, and Chanda Foster scored 12 points, had five rebounds and five steals. Chelsea Edwards also flirted with a double-double, finishing with 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Mercedes Graham and Tori Wheat led Chisum with seven points each. Wheat also grabbed five rebounds. Shelbie Monkres hauled down eight boards and had four points.
The Lady Warriors jumped ahead 24-8 in the first quarter and cruised into halftime holding a 44-21 advantage. They outscored Chisum 50-6 in the final two periods of play.
Longtime Honey Grove coach Kathy Clark was playing against her former player, Chisum first-year head coach KaDee Stogner.
Honey Grove shot 46 percent from the floor, making 39 of 85 shots. The Lady Warriors also got 39 steals in the game.
The Lady Mustangs return to action on Dec. 5 at the Miller Grove Tournament.

Chisum’s 6-4 senior post Matt Tillett went down with an injury early in the game and did not return, but the rest of the Mustangs simply stepped up their game, beating Honey Grove, 59-39, Tuesday night to remain undefeated.
Chisum senior forward Jeremy Eddington and senior point guard Kaleb Jackson combined for 45 points to lead the Mustangs to victory. Eddington scored a game-high 27 points, including 17 in the second half, while Jackson finished with 18 points, including 10 in the first half.
The game was a close one most of the way, as Chisum (3-0) carried a 17-15 lead into the second quarter and was ahead 28-25 at halftime. The Mustangs pulled away midway in the third quarter and outscored Honey Grove (1-4) 16-6 in the period led by Eddington, who scored eight points in the third.
Chisum held Honey Grove to single-digit scoring during both second half quarters as the Mustangs outscored the Warriors 15-8 in the fourth.
Darius Brown led Honey Grove in scoring with 14 points, including 10 in the first quarter. Dillon Baugh knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 12. Cody Joyce added seven for the Warriors.

Lady Patriots defeat
Como-Pickton, 45-33
COMO — Kelti Mowery recorded a double-double and the Prairiland Lady Patriots defeated visiting Como-Pickton, 45-33, Tuesday night in Patriot Gym.
Mowery scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Patriots, who improved to 3-1 on the season.
We’re very proud of our win and being 3-1. We’ve won more games by Thanksgiving than we did by Christmas break of last season,” said Lady Patriot coach Steven Weddle.
Jennifer Justice scored 12 points, had three steals and four rebounds, while Leila Calabria added five points for the Lady Patriots.

receive regional honors
COMMERCE — Texas A&M University-Commerce senior defensive lineman William Green and senior offensive lineman R.J. Brisbon were named to the 2009 Daktronics South Central Regional Football First and Second Team, respectively on Tuesday.
Green, who was also named the Lone Star Conference North Division Defensive Lineman of the Year, led the team with 18.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks.
He also managed to block two kicks and pick off a pass. Green was also selected first team all-LSC North Division after being recognized as the preseason LSC Defensive Player of the Year. Green will advance on to the national ballot for All-American consideration.
Brisbon, who earned Lone Star Conference North Division Offensive Lineman of the Year honors for a second-straight, was named to the second team. The
Lions offense behind Brisbon picked up 761 yards on the ground threw for
2,220 more.
• Texas A&M University-Commerce senior libero Lauren Flynn, who was named the Lone Star Conference’s libero of the year, was named to the 2009 Daktronics South Central Region Volleyball First Team on Tuesday.
Flynn leads Division II in digs per set with 6.21. She finished her eligibility with an A&M-Commerce single-season record with 795 this fall and the school’s career record with 2,640. Flynn was named the Lone Star
Conference Libero of the Year and first team all-Lone Star Conference.
Flynn now advances on to the national ballot for all-american honors. It is
her second all-region honor after earning second team recognition in 2008.
