Lady Cats fall, Roxton girls win in openers

LONGVIEW — The Paris Lady Cats kicked off their basketball season on Tuesday, falling to the Class 4A Longview Lady Lobos, 71-41.

Paris trailed 43-16 at halftime. The Lady Cats were playing without three starters who were involved in the volleyball playoffs.

Ayana Brown led Paris with 13 points, while Shanice Hill added seven points and 10 assists. Madison Porter added six points, and Payton Chapman and Jessica Vines each added five.

Tiara Davis and Kiasshey Williams both scored double-doubles for Longview. Davis scored 15 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, while Williams scored 14 and grabbed 11 boards.

Roxton 39, Chisum 32 (girls)

ROXTON — Sophomore Kemia Franklin had a game-high 26 points for the Roxton Lady Lions, as they overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter and earned a 39-32 win over the Chisum Lady Mustangs Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.

Chisum held a 30-16 lead after three quarters, but fell victim to a 23-2 run that lasted the entire fourth quarter.

Franklin also added seven rebounds and seven steals for the Roxton squad.

Jorden Mills had 11 points and five steals for the Lady Lions. Keylee Clemmons contributed with nine rebounds.

The Lady Mustangs were led by Shelbie Monkres, who had 17 points. Mercedes Graham had eight points.

Roxton’s next game is set for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday against North Hopkins. Chisum returns to the court at 5 p.m. Friday when it plays its home opener against Cooper.

Quinlan 51, Cooper 29 (G)

QUINLAN — The Cooper Lady Bulldogs fell victim to a second-quarter surge, which lasted throughout the game as they suffered a 51-29 setback against Quinlan on Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.

Cooper trailed by only three points after the first quarter, but Quinlan extended that lead and held a 26-17 lead at halftime. Quinlan went on to outscore Cooper 25-12 in the second half en route to a win.

Emily Landers led Cooper with 10 points and seven rebounds. Mariah Williams had six points and Amber Adams had four points.

Jennifer Hughes was Quinlan’s leading scorer with 11 points.

Cooper is scheduled to travel to face the Chisum Lady Mustangs at 5 p.m. Friday.

• Cooper’s junior varsity team claimed a 54-21 victory over Quinlan’s junior varsity team.

Donika Reynolds was Cooper’s leading scorer with 14 points. Lainey Huie added 10 points and Tate Anderson added 10 points.
