Paris resident Holland Harper announced his candidacy for the Texas House of Representatives Wednesday, drawing a big audience at the Culbertson Fountain in downtown Paris.
“My campaign is about working to see that our children and grandchildren have the opportunity to grow up in a Northeast Texas that is stronger and more prosperous than today,” Harper told his audience. “My campaign will focus on creating jobs, improving our schools and ensuring opportunity is available to future generations.”
Harper said it will not happen overnight.
“Together we can do it,” he said.
Harper will be a Republican candidate for a seat in the Texas House of Representatives, District 3 in the primary elections next spring. That seat is now occupied by Democrat Mark Homer.
Harper’s campaign manager Bryan Houston said Harper is focused on helping the area’s economy grow.
“Holland really has a vision and an action plan for economic development, and I think where there has been fine representation, the focus on growth has not really been there,” Houston said. “That is a concern for this region.”
Harper is general manager of We Pack Logistics and is involved with business development at Harrison, Walker and Harper.
He has been in the management position at We Pack Logistics since 2008, and has been with Harrison, Walker and Harper 18 years.
He received an MBA degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce and a bachelor’s degree in international studies at Austin College.
He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves until August 2007.
