Chavez uses her music to deliver a message

For Ingrid Chavez, the message is in her music.
“Jesus is all you need,” said the 16-year-old from Reno, about the songs she wrote and recorded for “The World 2 Me,” her first CD. “No matter what the situation, Jesus is the only thing that can fill the void in your heart. If you need love and joy, Jesus is the only person that can give it to you, on the spot, and it will last forever.”
Ingrid, a junior at North Lamar High School, recorded the CD earlier this year at Heavenly Tones Recording Studios in Midland, the home of the Chavez family until three years ago. The family — father, Boris, is in plant operations at Paris Regional Medical Center and mother, Norma, is an LVN in Dr. Arthur Tijerina’s office — moved to Paris to take up their first mission as pastors of Iglesia Nueva Vida, a Hispanic church located at the intersection of Lamar Avenue and 20th N.E. St. The entire family is involved in the work of the church and serves as the musicians and praise team for the congregation. With mom on the keyboard and little sister Evelyn on drums, Ingrid plays guitar while dad plays a little bit of everything else. Ingrid’s other sister, Kimberly, also plays keyboard.
The family didn’t play on “The World 2 Me,” but Ingrid’s father produced the nine-track CD, which includes “The Average,” “The World 2 Me,” “In the Silence of the Rain,” “Jesus is All I Need,” “There is Love,” “Through His Eyes,” “Avid and Daniel,” “Don’t Stop,” and “Mi Mundo Entero.”
“All of the songs came out of experiences that I’ve been through or that I’ve seen other people in my life go through,” said the young songwriter/performer. “They’re basically saying, ‘Yeah, life gets tough, but with God and Jesus, it gets a lot better.’”
Ingrid plans to continue to write and record another CD in the near future, but says she doesn’t know what life has in store for her.
“I want to go into the nursing field,” Ingrid said. “What happens later on ... that’s really in God’s hands.”
“The World 2 Me” is available at Living Water Bookstore, 2995 Lamar Ave., Hastings Books Music & Videos, 3518 Lamar Ave. and at Calvary Chapel, 3100 Clarkville St.
