College choir to appear in concert at FUMC

The renowned Centenary College Choir appears in concert Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 322 Lamar Ave.
The internationally known choir is to present a varied selection of music sure to offer something for everyone. The Centenary College Choir 2008-2009 season continues the history and tradition of the choir as it celebrates its 68th year of local, regional, national and international performances.
In June, the group closed out its 2009 international tour with a sold-out performance at the famed Opera House in Sydney, Australia. Previously, the choir performed in Auckland and Rotarua, New Zealand.
The choir is directed by Davis A. Hobson. He is only the fourth director in the 69-year history of the choir.
The Centenary Choir is affiliated with the Hurley School of Music at Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport, La. Founded in 1825 and affiliated with the United Methodist Church, Centenary is the oldest chartered college west of the Mississippi River. Centenary offers 47 majors and 16 pre-professional programs and is continually listed in the Top 10 by U.S. News and World Reports under “America’s Best Colleges.”
