HUGO, Okla. — The Choctaw County Arts Council and the Oklahoma Arts Council, presents the American master of the Flamenco guitar, Ronald Radford, in concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the Kiamichi Technology Center in Hugo, Okla.
Radford presents a varied and entertaining program of haunting Gypsy melodies and dazzling Flamenco techniques. He verbally paints a picture for his audience of the Flamenco art form, native to southern Spain, by lacing his program with warm and spontaneous commentary. The performance includes a broad range of musical tastes from the creativity of jazz, through the fun of Bluegrass to the styles of the classics.
A protégé of the legendary Carlos Montoya and a Fulbright Scholar, Radford is widely acclaimed as one the foremost Flamenco guitarists touring today. His concerts have taken him to universities and concert halls in 15 countries and have included such notable places as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Washington’s Kennedy Center, UCLA’s Royce Hall and the University of the Americas in Mexico.
While in Choctaw County, Radford also will give a special program at Fort Towson Elementary School on May 5.
Tickets for the May 4 concert are available in Hugo at the Hugo Area Chamber of Commerce, and Special Expressions and at the door the night of the concert. For information call Miriam Costilow at 580-326-1618.
