Flood control tops Commissioners' agenda

Lamar County Commissioners were to receive information today about state funding for operation and maintenance of watershed structures in Lamar County at a morning meeting.

According to County Judge Chuck Superville, up to $90,000 has been made available for the operation and maintenance on certain flood control structures in Lamar County.

The funds are subject to a 10 percent match by the county and the watershed district, the City of Deport and the Lamar Soil and Water Conservation District.

That 10 percent match may be made in in-kind contributions.

Lamar Soil and Water Conservation District officials also were expected to make a presentation.

In other action commissioners were expected to declare the week of Nov. 29 through Dec. 5 as “Tree of Angels Week” in Lamar County.

They also were to proclaim Nov. 2009 as “National Home Care and Hospice Month.”

Other agenda items follow.

• receiving certificates of completion from the Emergency Management that commissioners Lawrence Malone and Lonnie Layton each have completed the introduction to National Incident Management System;

• receiving a certificate of completion from the Commissioners Court Advanced Curriculum by Commissioner Jackie Wheeler;

• a decision on whether to let bids for unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel for all precincts, the sheriff’s department, constables, maintenance and county attorney investigator;

• consideration to let bids for road materials for all precincts;

• action on the Lamar County Sheriff’s Post Forfeiture budget for fiscal year 2009-2010;

• a discussion on a county uniform allowance to bailiffs;

• an equitable sharing agreement between the county attorney’s office and the federal government that allows the county attorney’s office to participate in the federal equitable sharing program involving federal forfeited cash, property and proceeds; and

• line item transfers from various county offices.
