Kenneth McDowra
Kenneth McDowra, 84, of Paris passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Paris Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Bro. Nolan Butler officiating. Burial follows in Meadowbrook Gardens Cemetery.
The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
He was born the son of John “Rip” Austin and Mae Carter McDowra Sept. 1, 1925, in Pattonville. He graduated from Deport High School and received his Associates Degree from PJC where he played basketball. His career as an industrial welder with B&W spanned 34 years. He served in the Army during World War II in Japan. He loved to golf, fish, sing and read his Bible every day. He married Thelma Woodson June 21, 1947. He was a member of the College Street Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Randy Lynn McDowra; two brothers, Loyd McDowra and Jerry McDowra; and one sister, Evelynn Daughtery.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma; two sons, Gary McDowra and wife, Cathy, and Brad McDowra, both of Paris; 10 grandchildren, Mandy Ragan and husband, Terry, Marcy Langston, Shane McDowra, Cody McDowra, Tyler McDowra, Laura Scroggins and husband, Ronnie, Stephanie McDowra, Shae McDowra, Dusti Cullum and Randa Cullum; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Fambro and Cherry Walker and husband, James; two brothers, Jerald Ray McDowra and wife, Claire, and Terry McDowra; three sisters-in-law, Edna Towers, Velma Salter and Shirley Jaynes; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
