Police warn of possible icy road conditions
Staff Report
Published December 29, 2009
Roads may be hazardous on the way to work Wednesday.
Near or just below freezing temperatures with a good chance of precipitation in around the Paris area has prompted an alert from Paris Police Department Police Chief Bob Hundley.
“It appears we will receive a small amount of snow this afternoon / evening, with forecast levels from 0 to 1 inch,” Hundley, who also heads the city emergency management system, said.
“Our main concern will be the near or just below freezing temperatures expected overnight, which will make bridges and overpasses hazardous not only tonight but during tomorrow morning’s commute,” Hundley said earlier today. “Temps are expected back in the 40’s Wednesday so it is expected that any frozen precipitation or patches on roadways will be gone by late afternoon.”
A morning update from Mark Fox of the National Weather Service e-mailed to Hundley confirms an earlier forecast “appears to be pretty much on track.”
The storm now centered across West Texas, Fox said, will move east during the day today, and will exit the state by Wednesday afternoon.
“The bulk of the precipitation, much of it in the form of snowfall, will occur today and tonight. Lingering clouds will stick around on Wednesday, but temperatures will quickly return to the 40s by Wednesday afternoon,” he stated.
“Areas to the north of a line from Lampasas to Hillsboro to Canton to Sulphur Springs can expect around 1 inch of accumulating snowfall,” the update stated.
Despite the fact that this storm is not nearly as potent as the Christmas Eve system, this is still snow in North Texas, Fox stated.
