Blockbuster Video, at 3290 Lamar Ave., is in the midst of selling off its inventory in advance of closing the Paris location.
“The Paris store is scheduled to close around Jan. 10,” company spokesman Randy Hargrove said.
“We are evaluating all our stores and this is one of a handfull that will close in the U.S.,” he said. The Paris store has been labled an “underperformer.” Hargrove declined to offer specific reasons for closing this location, or what criteria the company uses in their evaluation.
There are five employees at the Paris store. Hargrove said the company is working to find a new location for those who are willing to transfer to another store.
There are no longer any products for rent here, and the remaining inventory is being sold.
Hargrove said Blockbuster customers have other ways to access videos from the company. They are offering a two-week free trial on their mail service, or there is an on-demand through Blockbuster for those who have a PC, mobile device, TiVo or a high-definition Samsung to which they can download or stream directly.
Blockbuster is in the process of placing vending machines in many locations in the United States, although there are none in Paris. Hargrove said the company expects to place approximately 10,000 of the machines around the country by the middle of 2010.
