Staff Report
Published September 21, 2009
Paris Police responded to a burglary alarm call at about 2 a.m. today at the Speedy Stop convenience store on Farm Road 195, according to Matt Birch, Paris Police Department public information officer.
The officers and owner arrived to see major damage to the door and front of the store, apparently from someone driving a vehicle into it.
The owner also told officers that just before getting the call about the store on FR 195, he received another call from the alarm company about another of his stores in Powderly for the same reason.
Lamar County Sheriff’s Department deputies are handling the investigation at the Powderly store.
No suspects have been named in the case on FR 195, which is still under investigation.
About 7 p.m. Sunday while already on another call, police were approached by a hispanic male who said he was robbed somewhere in the area of 12 Street N.E. and Belmont Street.
The victim said he was walking home when he was approached by two African-American males. The men asked him to hand his wallet over to them, and when he refused, one of the men placed him in a choke-hold while the other took his wallet. The victim also said he was then threatened not to call the police.
No weapons were reportedly displayed and no suspects have been identified. The only description of the two suspects is that one was heavy set. The case is still under investigation.
Friday morning Paris police were called to a burglary of a residence in the 10 block of 23rd Street S.E.
The officer spoke with the resident, who advised he found the front door open and the window air conditioning unit removed from the window and lying on the ground. Nothing appeared to be missing and no suspects have been named.
