Rena Laura Good

DEPORT — Rena Laura Good, 83, of Deport died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, in the Brentwood Terrace Healthcare and Rehab Center.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at the First United Methodist Church of Deport with Rev. Debra May officiating. Burial follows in New Haven Cemetery. Wood Funeral Homes-Deport has charge of the arrangements.

The family receives friends an hour prior to services at the church.

She was born March 1, 1927, in Negley, the daughter of Samuel N. and Minnie Courtney Austin. She married John Good June 23, 1944. He preceded her in death March 27, 1998.

She graduated Detroit High School in 1944. She worked 18 years as a teacher’s aide for the Prairiland Independent School District until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Deport where she was involved in the United Methodist Women and The Quilters. She was also an avid painter, cook and gardener.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Earl Ray Austin; and a dear friend, Minnie Ruth Loven.

Survivors include her children, Tommy Good of Deport and Denise Good Earl and husband, David, of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Duane Good, John D. Good, Stephen Good and Laura LaRue; grandchildren, Brandi Stripland Boren, David B. Earl Jr. and Caleb Earl; great-grandchildren, Greyson Good and Jayden Tyler LaRue; nephews, Aubrey Austin and Mark Samuel Austin; niece, Anna Austin-Martinez; great-niece, Sally Anna; and special friends, Joan Langley, Sue Nichols and Helen VanDeaver, the Deport United Methodist Church and Deport Housing Authority Friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Domino, Stephen Good, Duane Good, Mark Austin, Aubrey Austin, John David Good and Laura Larue.
