Chris Skaggs


MOUNT PLEASANT — Chris Skaggs, formerly of Deport and currently a resident of Mount Pleasant, went home to her Heavenlyå Father on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009.

The family has requested that you join them in the Celebration of her Life at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. Interment follows at Highland Cemetery in Deport under the direction of Bates, Cooper, Sloan Funeral Home.

Visitation and a reception for friends and family are scheduled from 5-9 p.m. Friday at the Taylor/McGonagill residence, 503 Redfearn Court in Mount Pleasant.

A former graduate of the Walsch School of Business Science in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., she used her skills in the family business until retirement. A long-standing member of the Lamar County Child Welfare Board, she thrived on civic involvement.

A member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, she has served as a Certified Lay Speaker, Sunday School teacher, past District Lay Leader in both the north Texas and the Texas UM Conferences, past Texas Conference President for the Texas United Methodist women and delegate to General and Jurisdiction UM Conferences and numerous other offices and committees throughout her lifetime of service to God.

At the time of her death, she was an active member of the Fine Arts and Kroweldeen Clubs as well as two bridge groups. An avid reader, she was known for her entertaining book reviews for various civic groups.

Preceded in death by her parents and her firstborns, twins Dixie and David, she is survived by her daughter, Nancy and husband, Gary McGonagill; granddaughter, Tonya Taylor; great-grandson, Joe Hill Taylor; sister, Carol Ridens; brother, Glenn Clayton and wife, Delia; sister-in-law Ruth Skaggs; brother-in-law, Ray Skaggs and wife, Pansy; sister-in-law, Kathryn Stewart and husband, Al; and many extended family members and close friends to cherish her memory.

The family requests that you consider a donation to the United Methodist Women c/o St. Andrews UM, Mount Pleasant. Chris was a lifelong active member of this group.
