Paris Community Theatre to open 33rd season

Published August 10, 2009

Paris Community Theatre kicks off its 33rd season with “Dearly Beloved,” by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.

Directed by April Inmon, this energetic crowd-pleaser tells the story of the Futrelle Sisters of Fayro, Texas — Frankie, Honey Raye and Twink, a trio of middle-aged women who once performed as a gospel group called “The Sermonettes.” Frankie is bound and determined to pull off the elaborate antebellum-inspired wedding of her daughter, Tina Jo, with elegance and style, despite her own marital problems, and with the dubious help of the cantankerous wedding coordinator, Miss Geneva, who runs the local floral shop/bus depot.

Frankie’s problems are compounded by the never-married Twink’s desperate attempts to get her boyfriend of fifteen-and-one-half years down the aisle and the arrival of the much-married Honey Raye, who arrives at the church in skintight cocktail attire, consumed by hot flashes and a steely determination to right old family wrongs.

Things go even more off-the-tracks when Frankie discovers Twink’s alternative solution to an expensive catered wedding dinner is a potluck supper sponsored by Clovis Sanford’s House of Meat. Then comes word that the bride and groom have fled Fayro and eloped. While a highway patrolman chases down the run-away couple, the Futrelle Sisters pull it together one last time, and The Sermonettes unite in song once more.

The cast includes Mindy Moree, Gina Ervin and Allison Cardile as the Futrelle Sisters, Frankie, Twink and Honey Ray. Other members of the cast include, Logan Moree, Michelle Jewett, Tray Turner, Caryn Resnick, Max Inmon, Dalen Hobbs, Jeff Higgins and Michelle Anderson.

Lighting design is by Ray Karrer, Alex Callaway and Noah Stewart; lighting technician is Noah Stewart. Sound technician is Alex Callaway.
