Chamber Singers ready for concert

Published November 26, 2009

The Paris Junior College Chamber Singers will present a unique twist to the annual Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the First United Methodist Church, 322 Lamar Ave.

“It was a joy to look for outstanding Christmas arrangements that feature different instruments to accompany each selection for ‘An Instrumental Christmas’,” said Pat Fowzer, choral director.

Favorite Christmas selections include “Gesu Bambino,” “I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In,” “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “Ave Maria” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.”

Voice students Trent Little, Glenn Pruitt, Jordan Thielman, Hillary Evans, Jenilyn Fowzer, Sattriona Nyachwaya, Josh Mooneyham and Clarissa Christensen will present solo and duet selections.

Several of the Chamber Singer members are accomplished instrumentalists as well as singers. During the performance flutist Val Schmidt, clarinetist Justin Hughes, violinist Gloria Cooper and recently named All State trumpet player Elizabeth Silva will be featured. Accompanist Linda Flanary will be joined by Thomas Belew at the piano for four-hand piano arrangements on two of the selections. Paris High School percussion insructor Shawn Wellman, Stone Middle School band director and oboist Rhonda Morris, and PJC math instructor and recorder specialist John Fornof will also be among those sharing their instrumental expertise.

The Chamber Singers have been honored over the years with performances at the Mormon Tabernacle, Disney World, the Texas Ranger and Frisco Rough Rider ballparks, Dallas Mavericks’ and San Antonio Spurs’ games and have presented concerts in the State Capitol rotunda as well as the foyer of the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.

The Chamber Singers believe that this Christmas concert is going to be one of their finest, said Fowzer.

The public is invited to join in this joyful opening of the Christmas season. There is no admission charge for the concert.
