SIMMS — Rivercrest fell victim to an early offensive onslaught during its game Friday night against James Bowie.
The Pirates leaped out to a sizeable lead in the first half and ultimately downed the Rebels 48-21.
Rivercrest (1-1) found itself trailing by only one touchdown after the first quarter, but James Bowie (2-0) extended it to a 27-7 deficit at halftime. The Pirates added two more touchdowns in the third quarter to seal the victory.
The Rebels found the end zone two more times in the fourth quarter, but it proved to be too late.
Junior quarterback Brady Kennedy was once again a bright spot for the Rebels. In Rivercrest’s game against Alba-Golden a week ago, Kennedy accounted for 272 yards of total offense.
In Friday’s game, Kennedy was 18-of-27 for 289 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 81 yards on 20 carries.
Jacob Wright led the team in receiving yards with six catches for 137 yards. Kyle McCuller had two catches for 76 yards. Running back Jordan White had 26 yards rushing on six carries.
The Rebels host the Wolfe City Wolves (0-2) Friday in their final non-district game. They will then have an open week before they begin District 12-2A Sept. 25 against Paul Pewitt.
