Plaza Art Guild will unveil a new show with “Four for the Art: Paper, Canvas and Glass” at the Plaza Art Gallery at 8 West Plaza.
A reception will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Gallery. The show will be on display through Dec. 1.
Ginna Walker, Helen Short, Cathie Tyler and Jamie Carter, all charter members of the Plaza Art Guild, are the featured artists for this show.
Walker will offer pieces of her stained glass work. The Paris native creates glass images using different colors, kinds and textures. Her work has found homes in many states and even in Russia.
Short is known for her attention to detail and use of color in her paintings. Born in Brookston, she makes her home near Powderly.
Tyler works mostly in pen and ink, branching out into watercolor, conte, acrylics and, most recently, oil. She is a full-time instructor in the Paris Junior College Art Department and chairman of the Fine Arts Division.
Carter made a successful career as a free-lance artist. The inspiration for her paintings come from the beauty of nature. She built her reputation with Ducks Unlimited, Quails Unlimited and similar groups and landed an exclusive contract with Arts Uniq’, Inc., an art publisher.
The Plaza Art Guild has a current membership of 18. The gallery is operated by guild members who pay a commission on art pieces sold. Members volunteer their time at the gallery as part of their membership. The guild recently opened its membership to artists who live in neighboring counties. Artists are encouraged to pick up an application and enquire about qualifications to become a member. The gallery is located at 8 West Plaza in downtown Paris.
