Virgel S. Cox

Virgel S. Cox, 89, of Honey Grove passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Paris Skilled Nursing.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at White Church Cemetery in Glen Rose with Rev. Ralph Taylor officiating. Bright Holland Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

The family receives friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

He was the son of T. B. and Rosa Clines Cox, born Feb. 29, 1920, in Rio Vista. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II, was the recipient of the Purple Heart and was a POW in Japan for more than three years. Following 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, he was employed in civil service for 10 years to complete a 30-year career. He attended Bethel Temple Church and until his health failed several years ago, he was a minister of the gospel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Holly Sherwood Cox.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Cox; two children, Vicki Hill of Honey Grove and Ed Cox of Joshua; three brothers, Homer Cox of Cleburne, Bobby Cox of Fort Worth and U. D. Cox of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, Angela St.Mars of San Diego, Calif., David Reynolds of Greenville, Mary Cox of North Richland Hills and Joshua Cox of North Richland Hills; along with seven great-grandchildren.
