Hats off to Leadership Lamar County class

“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.”
The quote by an unknown author exemplifies the success of the 2008/2009 Leadership Lamar County Class with their work for the Meals on Wheels program.
Tapped out of freezer space and serving more than 600 meals a day in a building that needed updating to stay up to code and safe, the Lamar County Leadership team came to the rescue in the nick of time.
With a total of $142,000, $95,000 of which was a grant from the Lamar County Legacy Foundation, Meals on Wheels now has a new walk-in cooler/freezer and an updated fire suppression system — two phases of a three-step process.
The third phase, replacing the inadequate kitchen equipment with upgraded commercial equipment — the most expensive phase of the three — is still a work in progress. The Leadership Lamar County class continues to work toward completing that costly goal as well.
Without the hard work on the part of the Lamar County Leadership class, Meals on Wheels, the program would now be struggling to operate at all.
The class far surpassed its original goal of $80,000 in fundraising expectations, and could not have bestowed their hard work on a more deserving effort.
The Paris News — and we are quite sure the recipients of the Meals on Wheels services — give a hearty round of applause to the Leadership Lamar County team and the other donors and businesses that made the project a huge success.
