Harold Wayne Morrison

A tee time opened up in Heaven and Dad left to take it.

Harold Wayne Morrison, departed this life Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, the same way he lived it — surrounded by friends and family. After an 18-month battle with cancer, he made the courageous choice that he had suffered enough, and left this world for a better one he had prepared himself for his entire life.

He loved the Lord, and he also loved a good game of golf. Thursday, he joined one of his favorite golf partners, Larry Dean Salters, on Heaven’s finest golf course, where every drive is long and straight.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at Blossom Church of Christ with Evan Butler officiating, assisted by Earl Unruh, James White and Charles Fendley. Special singing will be presented by Brent Frank and Buddy Freeman. Interment follows in Knights of Honor Cemetery in Blossom. Bright-Holland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

He was born Sept. 3, 1947, in Paris, to Eunice Taylor Morrison and Clarence Udell Morrison. His parents raised him in a Christian household, and his church and faith remained the central point of his life throughout. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, and spent the last 30 years of his life serving the Lord as song leader, Sunday school teacher and active member of Blossom Church of Christ. His church family provided unmeasurable support throughout his life.

For years he has been a fixture at Prairiland High School events. He devoted much of his life to the school as a volunteer. He served on the Prairiland school board for 13 years, and took great pride in being a part of the new campus and amenities throughout the district. Whether the decision was popular or not, he always did what he felt was best for the students and teachers. He probably attended more Patriots football games than any other individual since the school was established in 1971. He also served on the board of the PAT Foundation and was chairman of the Larry Salters Memorial Golf Tournament for many years. If anyone personified the Patriot Spirit, it was him.

He also took pride in the many years he spent coaching youth sports in Blossom. He began coaching his oldest son, Jeff, in 1974, and coached every year until his youngest son, P.G., finished playing in 1987. Many of the players he coached as kids became close friends as adults.

For 17 years, he owned and operated Blossom Feed Store. He spent his final years as a custom hay haler and cattleman, checking his cows with his faithful sidekick of 15 years, “Big ’un.”

He was preceded in death by his father, Udell Morrison; and a niece, Abby Morrison.

Survivors include his mother, Eunice Morrison of Blossom; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Denis Frank of Blossom; a brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Jackie Morrison of Tyler; two sons and daughers-in-law, Jeff and Miranda Morrison of Reno and Paul Glen and wife, Chelli Morrison, of The Colony; four grandchildren, Lexi and Landry Morrison of The Colony and Brooks and Fischer Morrison of Reno; nephews, Brent Frank and wife, Lisa, of Antlers, Okla., and Brian Frank and wife, Christy, of Brenham; nieces, Alicia Hutchens and husband, Jason, of College Station, and Angie Morrison of Tyler; and two special aunts, Goldie Thomas of Paris and Ann Morrison of Fort Worth.

Pallbearers include Jeff Ballard, John Henry Graves, Shelly Morrison, Bill Scudder, Bradley Sessums, Darrell Sessums, Michael Sessums and Pat Williams. Very special bearers are Jake and Dave Broadway.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund has been established in his honor at Prairiland High School. Donations may also be made to Blossom Church of Christ.
