A time to be thankful for family and friends

A table groaning under the weight of food and a house filled with the scent of turkey and dressing. Little feet pattering through the house and out in the yard accompanied by the sounds of happy youth. A living room full of raving football fans cheering on their favorite team.
These impressions of Thanksgiving Day are but a few of the memories families will gather and cherish throughout the years.
Since the first Thanksgiving, this historic day has been a day of remembrance and of giving thanks to Almighty God, Like all holidays, traditional roots have been transitioned to how we currently observe the holiday. However, the spirit in which the holiday was intended is still embraced and celebrated.
Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends to gather together in recognizance of all the many things in this world we are thankful for. It brings families together and sometimes rarely seen relatives.
In contrast to “black Friday,” where our materialistic society comes to the front, Thanksgiving brings us all back to a non-material level. If only for one day, the focus stays on family, friends and fellowship — the very same principles the first Thanksgiving was founded upon.
The best Thanksgivings are those when a son or daughter comes home from college; when a newborn has recently been introduced to the family; or even just when the whole family is able to get together. On this day, the simple things are often the most important.
Have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving Day from The Paris News.
