Another busy weekend in the Red River Valley
Staff Report

It’s a rare weekend that doesn’t have some kind of activity in and around Paris.
This weekend is chock full — and then some.
Holiday in Paris is back in force starting Friday with a wealth of activities, some of which are held throughout the weekend. There are dozens of holiday related activities slated at Bywaters Park, the Maxey House continues to offer tours, children’s activities abound at Paris Public Library, and downtown Paris bustles with music and entertainment, shopping opportunities and the annual Christmas play provided by Paris Community Theater.
For those who want to get out of town, Christmas in Doctors Creek State Park in Cooper will light the Christmas tree Friday evening with tours of the park. Campsites will be decorated and tours are open to the public both Friday and Saturday.
Bonham Chamber of Commerce hosts a Christmas parade Friday following lighting ceremonies around the square. This is a great opportunity to “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” — theme for this year’s activities.
Saturday’s lineup includes Christmas parades in several area towns. Detroit starts its parade at 10 a.m., with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the parade and available for pictures afterward. Roxton Celebrates Christmas with a parade at 10 a.m. with visits with Santa and a dinner with entertainment for ex-students that evening. And the Christmas parade in Blossom gets under way at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Get an early start Saturday with a pancake breakfast at the Direct Volunteer Fire Department station. Proceeds will go to pay off the department’s fire truck.
In Pattonville, you can kick up your heels at the Pattonville Fire Department dance Saturday night.
Those of us who live in Northeast Texas are indeed blessed with a wealth of events happening all over the area this weekend. It’s a great opportunity to take advantage of that good old Northeast Texas cheer and enjoy the many activities that make this area a great place to live.
