Many interesting things to do in the area

Published November 13, 2009

Looking for something to do this weekend?

There’s plenty happening across Northeast Texas.

One big event beginning at 6 p.m. today at St. Paul’s Baptist Church is the annual CASA for Kids auction, with scores of beautifully decorated baskets to bid on.

There will be a silent auction and a live auction, and along with it a barbecue dinner.

It’s all for a good cause — the youngsters of Lamar County. Proceeds from the dinner held to honor all CASA volunteers will go to benefit youngsters.

Tickets are $10 at the door.

Then head out to the Beavers Bend Folk Festival near Broken Bow, Okla., for a time of your life.

It actually starts today and runs through Sunday, and the beautiful fall foliage along the way makes the trip worthwhile.

The festival is a showcase for turn-of-the-century arts and crafts, and this year more than 70 exhibitors will be there.

The folk festival will have entertainment, outstanding food and dozens of events for youngsters.

Along the way, in Clarksville, the Lennox House tours begin this weekend.

There a person can learn the history of the Lennox family and the old house they occupied all their lives.

The Trail de Paris appreciation ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the pavilion at Love Civic Center.

The Biardstown Volunteer Fire Department will have a barbecue supper from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, with proceeds going to the department and community.

Bogata will have a Health and Well Being Fair from 9 a.m. to noon in the Bogata First Baptist Church.

There’s plenty to keep a person busy and happy this weekend across Northeast Texas, and it’s all within a short driving distance.
