Neither Paris High nor North Lamar were able to capture the District 10-3A volleyball championship this season, but players from both teams captured their fair share of awards in the All-District selections.
Paris High’s Tiara Hall received the highest honor in the district, as she was named the Most Valuable Player for her role on the Lady Cat squad.
The junior middle blocker finished with a total of 353 kill shots for the entire season to go along with 56 blocked shots.
The player who assisted her with most of those kills also earned a reward, as junior setter Caroline Chappell was named the district’s MVP Setter. Chappell had a total of 820 assists for the season.
Paris High sophomore Andi Bawcum was also included in the awards. Bawcum was named the district’s MVP Middle Blocker. She had a total of 42 blocks for the season.
Lady Cat head coach Melanie Hodges rounded out the superlative award winners from Paris High, as she claimed the Coach of the Year honor.
For the North Lamar Pantherettes, two players nabbed superlative awards.
The district’s Server of the Year was junior Cobi Barker. She earned the award after finishing with a serving percentage of 95.1 percent and 19 aces in 183 serve attempts in matches against District 10-3A competition. For the entire season, she was successful in 93.5 percent of her 508 attempts.
North Lamar sophomore Sara Dunmon was named the district’s Newcomer of the Year for her contribution to the Pantherette team. She was called up from the junior varsity team shortly before the start of the district slate, but she made her presence felt as she led the Pantherettes with 87 kills during those 10 matches.
Rounding out the superlative award winners were Van Alstyne senior Emily Gentle, who was named the MVP Hitter, and Commerce sophomore Raven Massey, who was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Commerce won the District 10-3A title with a district record of 8-2. Paris High finished with the same district record but lost the tiebreaker via head-to-head matchups. Van Alstyne was the third-place team in the district by virtue of a tie-breaking match against North Lamar. Both teams finished with a league record of 5-5.
Commerce fell in the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs against Argyle, while Paris was defeated by Prosper in that same round. Van Alstyne was beaten by Argyle in the bi-district round.
