Yard sale and area rodeos offer a fun weekend
Staff Report
Published June 5, 2009
This weekend is a dream come true for yard sale lovers with 350 miles of yard sale bargains Friday and Saturday, and for those not entirely thrilled with the notion of shopping yard sales, there’s a rip-snortin’ good time at a choice of two rodeos, one on both Friday and Saturday and the other is Saturday.
The Hwy. 82/287 Yard Sale is bigger and better for its second year. Treasure seekers will have the chance to browse multiple sales during two days from New Boston to Seymour and Vernon to Bowie. Be sure to check out the tables at Market Square and the shops around the Plaza in downtown Paris along with all the other local spots on your way through.
Shoppers can stop by several venues for a local map of prime yard sale locations, including Spanglers, Paris Framing and Design, Daniel Gallery, Noble True Value Hardware, Scholl Brothers Bar-B-Q, Dairy Queen on Lamar Ave., Just Between Friends in Tejas Plaza and both Chamber of Commerce locations, 8 W. Plaza and 1125 Bonham St.
For those who want to make a wider search for bargains, visit www.redrivervalley.info and click on the U.S. Hwy 82/287 Yard Sale link on the left side of the page.
The 48th annual Hugo PRCA Rodeo kicks off at 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday at the Hugo, Okla., fairgrounds. It’ll be filled with traditional events in addition to top-notch entertainment. Nine-time National Finals Rodeo Act off the year John Payne and Leon Coffee, the featured barrel man and his long-time act will entertain audiences. To top off fun and events, a dance with live music featuring Kansas band Brian Lumley and the Red Dirt Underground tunes up at 10 p.m. in the Agriplex building.
The annual Lamar County Crime Stoppers Ranch Rodeo opens the gates at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Paris Rodeo and Horse Club arena at the Lamar County Fairgrounds. It’s all fun and games as teams compete in wild cow milking, doctoring, branding and bronc riding. Bull riding and barrel racing will stretch riders’ skills, and a calf scramble will have children competing for bicycles.
This event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the award-winning crime-fighting group. Proceeds from the rodeo go directly to the program to help solve crime in the community.
So no matter what your favorite flavor of entertainment, it’s a great weekend to be in Paris with great weather, shop-’till-you drop offerings and a pair of rodeos. What more could anyone ask?
