Celebrating 85 years of school spirit at PJC

Published November 5, 2009

Homecoming activities kick off this afternoon in celebration of Paris Junior College’s 85th anniversary.

A packed weekend of events begins at 4 p.m. with the annual parade. Spectators can line the streets and cheer for PJC sports teams, Homecoming Queen and King nominees and school programs as the parade moves up Clarskville Street toward the Plaza and back.

For the first time, PJC is hosting the Region XIV volleyball tournament, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday when the Lady Dragons play Blinn College at the Hunt Center. The Panola/Navarro game is set for 7 p.m. and the winner of each match will face off at 2 p.m. Saturday for the Region XIV championship.

The President’s Reception is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday in the McLemore Student Center cafeteria and the PJC drama department’s production of Noel Coward’s “Private Lives” is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Karrer Theatre.

A business meeting for Alumni and Friends is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday in the cafeteria, and reunion groups meet at 10 a.m. in room 205 of the Student Center. The Distinguished Alumni luncheon honoring Charles “Red” Scott through a video presentation is scheduled for the Student Center ballroom at noon, followed by the 1959 NJCAA Baseball Team Reunion at 2 p.m. at Hub Hollis Field.

Rounding out the Homecoming festivities are Lady Dragon and Dragon basketball games at 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday in the Hunt Center with the Homecoming Queen and King to be named at halftime of the men’s game. A repeat performance of “Private Lives” at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday end this year’s Homecoming activities.

Join in the parade, the volleyball tournament or the basketball games to support a college that has given much to the community in the past 85 years. Happy 85th anniversary PJC, and we wish you many more successful years.
