HG girls grab first-place at tournament

CAMPBELL — The Honey Grove Lady Warriors held Bland to single-digit scoring during the first three quarters and ended up scoring a 54-31 victory to claim first place in the Campbell Tournament Saturday night.
Lady Warrior Jessica Brigham was named Most Valuable Player, while Deosha Mackey and Shambreika Beard were named to the All-Tournament team.
Brigham led Honey Grove with 14 point, six assists and seven steals against Bland. Regan Rickman scored nine, and Deosha Mackey and Chelsea Edwards each added eight points.
Chanda Foster grabbed eight rebounds, and Mackey grabbed seven. Sham Beard had seven steals.
Detroit 62, Trenton 42 (B)
CAMPBELL — Deon Patt scored 27 points, Anthony Eddins scored 14 points and Kameron Cashion notched a double-double to give the No. 10 state-ranked Detroit Eagles a 62-42 victory over Trenton and a chance to play in the championship game of the Campbell Basketball Tournament.
Joining the Eagles in the championship game was No. 9 state-ranked Bland. That game was scheduled for an 8 p.m. tipoff on Saturday.

Prairiland 46, Celeste 36 (B)
CELESTE — The Prairiland Patriots began their season on a positive note, as they claimed a 46-36 victory over Celeste.
The Patriots began the game with a three-point lead in the first quarter and slowly extended it throughout the contest.
In addition to the first victory of the season, it was also the first win for first-year Prairiland basketball coach Trevor Upchurch.
Todd Fendley led all Prairiland scorers in the game with 12 points. Tanner Connot added eight points. Steven Ruckman, Brandon Graham and Alec McDowra chipped in with seven points apiece.
The Patriots are set to host Fannindel at 8 p.m. on Monday.
• The Prairiland junior varsity Patriots also picked up a 50-21 win over Celeste.
Tyler Patterson and Dustin Martin led the way with nine points apiece. Garrett Berry scored eight points.

Maud 50, Prairiland 48 (G)
PATTONVILLE — Trailing by 14 after one quarter and also at halftime, but Prairiland Lady Patriots mounted a comeback before falling short to the visiting Maud Lady Cardinals, 50-48, Friday night.
Maud jumped ahead 16-2 in the first quarter and led 29-15 at halftime. But the Lady Patriots (1-1) did not throw in the towel, as they outscored the Cardinals 33-21 in the second half before falling short.
“I was very pleased with the comeback,” said Lady Patriot coach Steven Weddle. “In years past that probably would have been a 30-point loss for us, but I was pleased with the way we fought back and made a game of it.”
Callie Tucker led Prairiland with 12 points, while Kelti Mowery added nine. Sara Beth Upchurch, Courtney Daniel and Jenniffer Justice each scored six.

CLARKSVILLE — The Clarksville Lady Tigers, who have been a traditional playoff team for several years, are still in search of their first win of the 2009-10 basketball season after dropping a 34-33 decision to the Idabel Lady Warriors in a game played Friday night in the Clarence L. Nix Jr. Gym in Clarksville.
Clarksville (0-3) carried a one-point advantage into the final period, but with 3:53 left in the game the Lady Warriors had moved to a 34-29 lead.
Clarksville closed the gap to just one point before the contest ended.
Senior Dominique Doolittle led the Lady Tigers with 10 points, while fellow senior Chakeitha Ramirez contributed eight points.

SALTILLO — Kemia Franklin hit a layup at the buzzer to send the Roxton Lady Lions over Como-Pickton, 42-41, Saturday in the third-place game in the Saltillo Basketball Tournament.
Franklin finished with a game-high 25 points, while Jorden Mills added 15. Keylee Clemmons scored the other basket and also grabbed 13 points and had seven assists. Andi Duck and Eric Savage grabbed seven and five rebounds, respectively.

SALTILLO — Haley Steen and Haley Bivins scored 21 points and 17 points, respectively, to give the Rivercrest Lady Rebels a 56-37 victory over the Roxton Lady Lions on Friday in the Saltillo Tournament.
Rivercrest (2-2) raced to a 20-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back en route to handing Roxton (3-1) its first loss of the season.
Steen added eight rebounds for the Lady Rebels. Skeet Fields scored seven points and played a large part in holding Roxton’s leading scorer, Kemia Franklin, to only 13 points in the game.
Franklin’s 13 points led Roxton, while Keylee Clemmons added eight points and Jorden Mills scored seven points.

QUINLAN — The Cooper Bulldogettes finished the Quinlan Tournament, which began Thursday and ended Saturday, with two wins and two losses.
Cooper (3-4) began Saturday’s tournament action with a 35-26 victory over Sam Rayburn. Mariah Williams was the team’s leading scorer in the game with 14 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Leigh Tatum scored seven points. Elizabeth Williams and.
The Bulldogettes finished the day with a 54-28 setback against Community. Elizabeth Williams, Haley Lynch, Lani Hohenberger, Tatum and Shaffer scored four points apiece in the game.
Cooper suffered a 68-36 setback against Crandall in the second round of the Quinlan Tournament on.
Elizabeth Williams was Cooper’s top scorer, as she had 12 points. Shaffer scored seven points, and Amber Adams chipped in with six points and five rebounds.
Cooper began the Quinlan Tournament on Thursday with a 49-31 triumph over Celeste. Adams was Cooper’s leading scorer in the game, with 11 points. She also had six rebounds and three blocks. Shaffer and Mariah Williams scored eight points apiece. Lynch had six points, six rebounds and six steals.

DALLAS — The Paris Lady Cats held Dallas Roosevelt to single-digits in both the third and fourth quarters
to capture their first victory of the season, 61-44, Friday night.
Two players recorded double-doubles for the Lady Cats (1-3). Ariole Jenkins scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had five assists, Tiara Hall had 12 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks.
ShaTaylor Moore scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Shanice Hill missed a double-double by one point, scoring nine points and dishing out 10 assists.
Paris plays its first home game on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Kaufman
• Paris’ junior varsity won 33-27. Drisha Sims scored 10 points, and Mimi Ricks followed with 9.
