Harold Dean Doyle
HONEY GROVE – Harold Dean Doyle, 79, of Paris passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Legend Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Paris.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove with Dr. Ken Yates officiating. Masonic services are to be given at the funeral home. Burial follows with full honors given at Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove.
Family visitation is to be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, prior to services.
He was born Oct. 28, 1930, to parents Harvey Washington Emmons and Ruby Lougenia Doyle in Honey Grove. He married Margie E. Walker Dec. 22, 1997 in McKinney. He retired as office manager from TXU Electric. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Honey Grove Masonic Lodge No. 164 AF&AM. He served his country in the U.S. Army and retired after 38 years in active and reserve duty in various capacities and retired as a brigadier general. For the Texas Selective Service, he was operations officer, deputy commander, commander-Selective Service State and retired as state director for the Selective Service System of Texas. Decorations received were the Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Reserve Achievement Medal. For service to the state of Texas he received the Lone Star Distinguished Medal, Texas Outstanding Service Medal, Federal Service Medal, Texas Faithful Service Award and the Adjutant General Individual Award.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State University, now known as Texas A&M University-Commerce, May 25, 1968. He attended Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, DeAnna Doyle; and two aunts.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Doyle of the home; daughter, Delanie Doyle; grandson, Brittney Doyle; sister, Anna Beth Haggard of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; daughter, Cynthia Powell and husband, Rhett, of Paris; grandson, Rhett Austin Powell II of Paris; cousins, Jimmy Doyle and wife, Mary, of Honey Grove; aunt, Sally Ellison of Longview; uncle, Ed Williams of Gun Barrell City; nephews, Danny Ellison and Tim Ellison, both of Longview; and niece, Regina Zores
Pallbearers are members of the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers are members of the 49th Armored Division he once served with, including Kenneth Witcher, Alva L. Strickland, Johnny Braley, Mackey Charles, Larry Dobbs, Buster Collins and Butch Huffer.
