Property tax values up across board

Published August 10, 2009

Property tax values for 2009 are up for all taxing jurisdictions in Lamar County, according to Lamar County Appraisal District chief appraiser Phyllis Bryan.

“The jurisdictions with the largest increases were those with the new compressor station on Texas 19/24 and new pipelines,” Bryan said. “The others had modest increases, primarily caused by the loss of homestead caps of properties capped in 2008.”

All entities also experienced new improvement values.

“This is property that has been added new since 2008,” Bryan said.

Certified tax roles have been delivered to all taxing entities, a prerequisite to budget preparation for fiscal year 2009-2010 and the setting of 2009 tax rates.

Roxton Independent School District saw the largest gain in taxable property values at 31.69 percent from $41,387,654 in 2008 to $60,587,461 in 2009. Prairiland Independent School District also experienced a double digit gain of 13.39 percent in new taxable values from $134,096,198 in 2008 to $154,821,870 in 2009.
