Salvation Army Major Texas Ellis said earlier today “things are improving daily” in efforts to fill the toy wishes of more than 800 children on The Salvation Army’s pre-approved gift list.
But donations are still running behind what is needed to fill the needs of all the children on the Angel Tree list. Many tags remain on trees at Walmart, The Paris News, TaMolly’s Restaurant, Bealls Department Store, First Federal Bank on N.E. Loop 286 and the Dollar Store in Reno.
“The Salvation Army is marching along with its toy drive and things are improving daily, thanks to many of our good people in Paris who have already come to our rescue,” Ellis said.
Realtors in Lamar County have now joined the toy effort with all real estate offices serving as drop-off stations for toys,” Paris Board of Realtors President Joe Burress said Wednesday. “There are more than 100 Realtors in Lamar County and if every one of them contributes just a little we can make a difference.”
Paris Emergency Medical Service paramedics shopped Wednesday for 60 gifts for Angel tree children and are out in force with the annual “Fill The Boot” campaign today through Saturday at all entrances to Walmart. Proceeds also go to help children at the Children’s Advocacy Center, Paris Pregnancy Center, Headstart and CASA.
“Kay McFadden, our toy shop coordinator, will begin today putting names and numbers together with the toys and the Angel Tree gifts that have come in thus far,” Ellis said. “We are requesting that all items be returned to us no later than Dec. 19 for processing for our Dec. 21 and Dec. 22 distribution.”
New Toys are needed for children from birth through 12 years of age.
“You may bring the items to our office or return them to the Angel Tree locations from which you adopted the Angel,” Ellis said. “Once again we would like to say thank you to all who have been so generous and thoughtful.”
The Salvation Army office is located at 350 W. Kaufman.
