Esther Maddox Yeager
Esther Elizabeth Maddox Yeager, 93, quietly passed away in the early hours of Sept. 2, 2009, in the loving arms of her care-giver, Kathy Beard, in whose home she had resided the last fragile 16 months of her life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First United Methodist Fellowship Hall, 322 Lamar Ave., on Sat., Sept. 19, at 1 p.m. with a program of music, pictures and sharings with the hospice chaplain, Rev. Bob Bush officiating. Following refreshments, the family will make a pilgrimage to Long Cemetery, where her ashes will be spread at the gravesite bearing her name.
She was born in Powderly to George W. and Laura Jennings Vaughn on Nov. 22, 1915. Her beloved husband, Elvis C. Maddox, preceded her in death in 1979. In 1986, she married Alvis Yeager of Paris, who passed away in 2004.
She graduated from Powderly High School, where she was class valedictorian. After marrying and being a dedicated homemaker for many years, the family moved to Dallas where she was employed by First National Bank as a trust/real estate administrator. After retirement, she and Daddy moved back home and resided in and around Paris.
In 1986, she married Alvis Yeager, and they resided at 3110 Mahaffey Lane for 16 years, where she was lauded for their beautiful garden and Al humorously enjoyed referring to himself as Esther’s “wheelbarrow and shovel man.” They enjoyed travel, bridge, dancing and hosting family gatherings. During that time, she was able to enjoy many golden years of recreation.
She is survived by four children, Phyllis Papineau, of Pine, Az., Don Maddox of Arcata, Ca., Linda Kinsley and Janice McKinney of Paris; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Eleanor Osborn and Christine Sweatman. A sister, Mary Maxine Forman, and two brothers, Ted Barnett and Eugene Vaughn also preceded her in death.
The family thanks Gina Nance and staff at Paris Oaks and Springlake Assisted Living Centers, Vivian Hill, Barbara McDonald and Kathy Beard, for their years of loving dedication and care.
