Blue Ridge blanks Detroit, 25-0

Published September 20, 2009

BLUE RIDGE — Blue Ridge quarterback Jake Price took advantage of the Detroit Eagles on his soggy home field Friday night.

Detroit quarterback Chaz Dickerson threw three interceptions, and Price and the Tiger squad parlayed those turnovers into points en route to a 25-0 win over Detroit.

Price led Blue Ridge in rushing with 80 yards and two touchdowns, while also passing for 92 yards.

He did most of the damage against Detroit (0-3), who actually held Blue Ridge (1-3) to 280 total yards of offense.

Detroit head coach Stuart Proctor said he was content with his squad’s defensive performance but was disappointed with costly penalties and turnovers.

“Defensively, we played very well,” the first-year head coach said. “We had a good game plan. We didn’t allow them too much offense. We just couldn’t get things going on offense.

“The interceptions hurt and penalties hurt late in the game.”

Detroit began the game in a strong fashion, limiting Blue Ridge to only six points during the first half. It was still a manageable deficit after three quarters, as Blue Ridge clutched to a 12-0 lead.

The game spiraled out of control for the Eagles during the final quarter, as the Tigers more than doubled their lead and sealed the win.

Dickerson led Detroit in rushing with 50 yards. Deon Patt ran for 32 yards, and Crey Dickerson finished with 26 yards on the ground.

Chaz Dickerson and Kenton Tucker combined for zero passing yards on six attempts.

Patt paced the Eagles with 10 tackles, and Chastin Cline contributed with nine tackles.

“We’re improving every week,” Proctor said. “Defensively we played probably the best game we could possibly play. It was just a matter of getting things going at the same time.

“We had some drive killers. We had big plays called back for penalties. ... We’re showing improvement, and we’re just hoping to get better before district starts.”

Detroit returns to its home field at 7:30 p.m. Friday when it hosts Era.
