Lamar County Democrats will host a fundraiser and candidate forum Tuesday at the Lamar County Fairgrounds.
A chili and hotdog supper is to begin at 5:30 p.m. with activities expected to wrap up by 9 p.m., according to Pete Patterson, president.
Attendees are asked to bring something for the auction — cakes and pies and other sundry items, according to Sharron Nabors, secretary. Door prizes are to be awarded throughout the event.
“This is our major fundraiser for the year and we need Democrats to come out and lend their support,” Nabors said. “We’ll have a get out the vote rally and Democratic candidates will have a chance to speak.”
U.S. Congressional candidate Valinda Hathcock, D—Sulphur Springs, is an invited guest as is state Rep. Mark Homer, D-Paris. Both are unopposed in the March 2 primary. Thomas Ratliff of Mount Pleasant, who is in the District 9 State Board of Education race against incumbent Republican Don McElroy of Bryan, also is on the guest list. Ratliff is unopposed in the Democratic Primary.
Challenger Jess Nickerson and incumbent Deane Loughmiller are to make their pitches in the race for the Democratic nomination for Lamar County Court At Law judge as are Keith Howard and incumbent Crystal Duke in the Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace race.
Candidates for Precinct 4 Commissioner include incumbent Jackie Wheeler and challenger Roger Johnson, mayor of Blossom.
Uncontested Democratic candidates include Chuck Superville, county judge; Marvin Ann Patterson, district clerk; Kathy Marlowe, county clerk; Shirley Fults, county treasurer; and Justices of the Peace Don Denison in Precinct 1; Tim Risinger in Precinct 3; Ken Ruthart in Precinct 4 and Ernie Sparks in Precinct 5, Place 2.
