50 years of Paris tradition — PRHC Rodeo

Published July 28, 2009

It’s the 50th anniversary for the Paris Rodeo and Horse Club Rodeo and spectators are urged to join in the festivities starting Wednesday night and running through Saturday night.

Local entertainment and talent are abundant at this year’s rodeo, from the stock contractor to the band performing at the Saturday dance after the rodeo.

The Wing Rodeo Company of Bogata will provide top quality stock for the event, and the show will be rounded out by Cameron Keaton’s entertaining clown antics.

Wade White & The Plain Label Band will keep the arena rockin’ long into Saturday night.

The Saddlettes, a precision riding group from the Lamar County area, will post the colors at the grand entry and entertain the crowd with carefully choreographed drills.

PRHC is stepping up its efforts to get the community involved this year with a new event — calf dressing, which will involve local churches, banks and other businesses in pursuit of a $500 prize and bragging rights.

Tickets are $9 purchased in advance from Cavender’s Boot City, Big Country Farm Center or at the PRHC Club House, or $10 at the gate for Wednesday through Friday night. Saturday night, tickets will be $11 if purchased at the gate.

Children ages 7 to 12 are $5 if purchased in advance and $6 at the gate for all performances. Children under 6 get in free.

Wednesday and Thursday nights are senior nights; seniors get in for $5.

Don’t forget to wear pink for “Think Pink” night on Friday in support of breast cancer awareness — many PRHC members as well as cowboys and cowgirls will be sporting the color.

The rodeo offers a little bit of everything, and is a sight to see for the beginner or experienced rodeo fan. Take an evening this week and help PRHC celebrate its 50th anniversary of bringing high-quality rodeo action to our area.

Head on to the Lamar County Fairgrounds; the Saddlettes perform at 7:45 p.m. and grand entry begins at 8 p.m.
