Cooper comes up short in loss to Lone Oak

LONE OAK — The Cooper Bulldogs gave Lone Oak a scare, but ended up falling short to the Buffaloes, 29-21, Friday night in District 13-2A action.

Lone Oak (6-1, 4-0) remained perfect in district play, while Cooper (3-4, 1-3) suffered its third district loss and fourth of the season.

Cooper will try to rebound this week when it hosts Alba-Golden (0-7, 0-4) on homecoming night. Alba-Golden was crushed by Winnsboro, 49-7, on Friday.

Cooper quarterback Ty Huie scored two touchdowns on short runs, while Bulldog running back Montrel Roberts rushed for 73 yards on 22 carries and scored once. Dan Beeler was 3-for-3 on extra points.

Pee Wee Jeffery rushed for 54 yards on 10 carries and Chris Ballard gained 36 yards on six totes.

Cooper senior linebacker Logan Arthur finished with 10 total tackles, including seven solos, while Jonathan McGraw had 10 assisted tackles. Ballard, Zack Harrison, and Holden Jenkns each had seven.

The Bulldogs finished with 213 yards total offense, including 180 yards rushing.

With three games remaining in the regular season, Cooper and Grand Saline are tied for fifth place in District 13-2A. Lone Oak and Caddo Mills are both 3-0, while Winnsboro and Quitman are 3-1 in district.
