Mustangs' Eddington combines for 260 yards

ANNA — Chisum senior quarterback Jeremy Eddington showed why he’s being recruited by Division I schools as he rushed and passed for 260 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Mustangs to a 16-0 win over the Anna Coyotes Friday night.
Eddington rushed for 147 yards on 17 carries and scored twice in the second half on runs of 47 and 19 yards.
It marked the second consecutive year that Chisum opened the season with a shutout. Last year, the Mustangs blanked Anna 28-0.
Friday night, the Chisum defense held Anna to 98 total yards, while the Mustangs’ offense racked up 350 total yards.
“First of all, we’re more than happy to get the ‘w’ in the first game. We really felt like we came out a little flat. It was almost like we were waiting on the big play to happen instead of making it happen,” said Chisum head coach Don Hasley.
Kolton Porter had two receptions for 56 yards, while Tyler Jeffery caught three for 29 yards.
Defensively, linebacker Brian Glover and lineman Aaron Arnold combined for 19 tackles. Glover finished with 11 total tackles, including nine solos, while Arnold had five solos and eight total tackles.
“I would have to say Brian Glover played a good game defensively. Our defense as a whole played pretty well,” Hasley said. “I talked about us not playing well as a whole, but heck, then I look at what we did. We only gave up 77 yards to them rushing, so I guess we did what we were supposed to do,” Hasley added.
Chisum is at Bells (1-0) on Sept. 4. Bells ripped Savoy, 59-0, on Thursday.
