LC Commissioners to ponder grant applications

Published October 24, 2009

Lamar County Commissioners will be busy at their regular meeting Monday in the Lamar County Courthouse with consideration of several grant applications.

Among them will be a City of Paris and Lamar County grant application in the amount of $167,686 for the operation of the Lamar County Felony Crimes Unit.

The City will act as fiscal agent and remit $47,462 of the $167,686 to Lamar County.

In exchange, the county will use the funds for the continued operation of the Lamar County Felony Crimes Unit through Sept. 30, 2010.

Commissioners will discuss a resolution in support of an application to the Texas Department of Transportation for a grant through the transportation enhancement program for reimbursement funds to construct a multi-use, non-motorize pedestrian, biking and equine trail from the eastern city limit of Reno through the unincorporated portions of Lamar County, through the City of Blossom and to the eastern boundary of the county.

Another grant under consideration Monday is one from the county to Lamar County Human Resources Council, which provides home-delivered meals to homebound persons who are elderly or have a disability.

In other consideration, the commissioners will:

• discuss their votes for a candidate to the board of directors for the Lamar County Appraisal District;

• consider letting bids for an early warning system for the rural fire departments, with funds to be obtained through the Homeland Security grant program;

• discuss entering into an agreement with Pro Turf for lawn care service at the courthouse, including the application of chemical fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides to increase the appearance and health of the courthouse lawn and shrubbery.

• receive a copy of the letter County Judge Chuck Superville sent to the Texas Department of Transportation requesting assistance with materials to repair and maintain county roads damaged by the impact of the 2060 Weight Tolerance Permits;

• discuss certification of new and unforeseen revenue received in a sale of equipment to Delta County;

• consider the county attorney’s post forfeiture budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year;

• discuss purchase of two truck/tractors through the buyboard for Commissioner Precinct 2; and,
