‘Twisted Texan’ author to visit Paris

Rich Mussler, author of the “Twisted Texan” books, is holding a book signing from 4 to 6 p.m. March 7 at Hastings in Paris.
The Flower Mound resident has traveled throughout Texas promoting his books that center around the life adventures of Fritz Howzer, a character Mussler said is greatly influenced by his own experiences and background and that of his brother and even his sister.
The two collections of short stories, “Tales of the Twisted Texan” and “Twisted Texan and Other Stories,” all have a kernel of truth to them, Mussler said.
Writing since he was young, Mussler said he never thought seriously about having his work published until one fateful night in January 2004 when he was hit by a 16-year-old driving a Jeep Cherokee.
After two days in the intensive care unit and 10 more in the hospital, Mussler realized during his seven-month recovery that if he had died, his family would never have seen what he had written through the years.
The author said he took his extensive collection of short stories and screenplays and compiled a book for his family. That copy encouraged him to send the book to multiple publishers and from there, “Twisted Texan and Other Stories” was born in November 2004. Mussler said he didn’t want to be just a “one hit wonder,” so he followed his first collection of short stories with another — “Tales of the Twisted Texan,” published in November 2006.
For the past year and a half, Mussler has been working on a novel and says it should be ready for publication later in the year. The book will once again bring Fritz Howzer to the front, but this time as a Drug Enforcement Agency agent in the 1980s cocaine-ridden Columbia. The “Twisted Texan” books can be found at major booksellers, or by contacting the publisher through Mussler’s Web site at www.twistedtexan.com.
