George Wesley Melton

George Wesley Melton, 86, of Paris passed away Sunday Nov. 1, 2009, in Bonham.

Graveside services are to be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 4 in the Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Travis Edwards officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

He was born on April 19, 1923, in Ivan a son of Benjamin and Edna Mae Wood Melton. He was retired from the U.S. Army receiving the rank of master sergeant and served during World War II, the Korean conflict, and the prestigious Old Guard in Washington, D.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ben Fox; and a brother, James Melton.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Norene Melton, who he married July 15, 1958, in Paris; children, Ruth Anne Fox and husband, Charles, Janice L. Jordon and husband, Thomas, James T. Melton and wife, Michelle, and Jack W. Melton; 13 grandchildren, including Tad D. Olson and Tonya Jackson; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joann Perry and Peggy Allen; and sister-in-law, Wynelle Melton.
