Paris girls take second in basketball tourney

WICHITA FALLS — The Paris Lady Cats finished second in the 29th annual Fantasy of Lights Basketball Tournament over the weekend at Midwestern State University D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Dubbed the largest high school basketball tournament in the nation, the Lady Cats were competing in the Class 3A Division II Bracket. They lost to Iowa Park (7-0) in the championship round Saturday afternoon, 52-41.
In bracket play on Friday, Paris clobbered Grossbeck, 54-9, then beat Wichita Falls Hirschi in overtime, 47-36, and Wichita Falls High JV, 57-18.
Lady Cat juniors Tiara Hall and Ariole Jenkins were named tournament Most Valuable Players. Iowa Park’s Presley Gann, who scored 32 points against Paris, was named tournament MVP.
District foes Commerce also competed in the tournament, winning the consolation backet after falling to Iowa Park in the pool play, 51-35.
The Lady Cats (5-4) are at Idabel, Okla., on Tuesday.
