Congrats to area football, volleyball teams
Staff Report

Football and volleyball teams in the Red River Valley should be commended for their hard work and dedication this season.
As far as football is concerned, it was a season much like a year ago for the area high school teams.
The Paris High Wildcats, North Lamar Panthers and Prairiland Patriots once again advanced to the postseason. Unfortunately, for the second straight season, all three teams suffered setbacks in the bi-district round of the playoffs against worthy adversaries.
Paris, which finished the season with an overall record of 6-5 and was runner-up in District 10-3A, was defeated by Argyle, the No. 5 state-ranked team in Class 3A, by a score of 52-14. North Lamar, which finished with a record of 3-8 and was the third place team in District 10-3A, lost to No. 8 state-ranked Prosper by a score of 37-0. Prairiland, which finished with a record of 9-2 and was runner-up in District 12-2A for the second season in a row, was edged by Melissa by a score of 7-6.
The area’s top volleyball success this season was earned by the Detroit Lady Eagles, who won District 17-A and made it all the way to the Class A, Region 3 semifinals. They were only two wins away from advancing to the state tournament in Austin, but they suffered a four-game loss to Normangee in their semifinal match on Saturday.
There were also three other volleyball teams in the playoffs this season, as the Paris High Lady Cats, Chisum Lady Mustangs and Prairiland Lady Patriots also represented the RRV.
Paris, which finished as the runner-up in District 10-3A, won two playoff matches before falling in the regional quarterfinal round. Prairiland, which was crowned the District 12-2A champion, won one playoff match before bowing out in the regional quarterfinal round. Chisum, which was the runner-up to Prairiland in District 12-2A, lost its bi-district round match against Melissa.
On the junior college level in volleyball, the Paris Junior College Lady Dragons advanced to their conference tournament for the first time in program history. They lost to the defending national champion in four games, but that will serve as a building block for them as that program continues to grow.
All the student-athletes on these teams, as well as teams that didn’t make the postseason deserve recognition for the hours of hard work and dedication they put into this season.
