Joseph Ellison ‘J.E.’ Meade

HONEY GROVE – Joseph Ellison “J.E.” Meade passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, in Paris.

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Self Church of Christ.

The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove.

He was born Oct. 30, 1923, to Molly Scott Meade and George Meade in Honey Grove. He married his wife, Jean Meade, Jan. 29, 1948. He attended school in Honey Grove. Upon receipt of his diploma, he joined the United States Army Air Corp where he served in Europe during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. It was from those years, he told many stories of traveling by plane continuously between England and France as a radio operator. After returning from the war, he met the woman who became his wife, Jean, with whom he reared five children.

A lifetime Texan, he dearly enjoyed his work as a farmer and rancher. He ran a fertilizer business in Honey Grove for many years as well as working with many area farmers in the farm and ranch industry.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Meade; sister, Lois Killingsworth of Honey Grove; five children and their spouses, Greg Meade of Los Angeles, Calif., Steve and Marie Meade of Paris, Karen Barnett of Paris, Randy and Nancy Meade of Chicota, and Joel Meade of Honey Grove; grandchildren, Valerie Speer, Wendy Barnett, Katharine Ashby, Dustin Meade and Morgan Meade; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Ava and Colt; and many dear friends.

The family would like to thank the people of the Honey Grove community for their continuous calls and support for him over the past several months.
